Resistance: Fall of Man, previously known as I-8 (working title), is an upcoming sci-fi-based first-person shooter video game being developed by Insomniac Games, the makers of the popular Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank series for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 3, it is scheduled to be released as a launch title on November 17, 2006 for the worldwide release of the PlayStation 3.
The humans seem to be relying on more conventional weapons, including a pump-action shotgun, an automatic rifle that resembles an AK-47 with a scope attached, and a rifle with an underslung grenade launcher which appears to be a bizarre hybrid of the M1 Garand and modern assault rifles such as the FN SCAR and H&K G36. However, there will be some futuristic weapons such as the Bullseye, which lets you tag an enemy so that all shots will home in on it. Also seen in videos and screenshots are tiltrotor aircraft similar to a V-22 Osprey. It is likely that the game will feature much of this human technology which normally would seem anachronistic for the 50s era, yet feasible in the alternative universe setting where mankind would be investing all its resources into developing ways to combat the invaders. Indeed, press reports from E3 2006 talk about even more fanciful weapons such as a grenade type called the Hedgehog, which detonates in mid-air, firing spikes in all directions.
Each weapon has a primary and secondary fire. For instance, the M5A2 Carbine's primary fire is rapid fire bullets, while its secondary fire is a missile launch.
A multiplayer mode for up to 40 players is planned for the PS3's online service.
