Read My Lips is the first solo album released by pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Released on August 27 2001 by Polydor. The title was presumed to be based on a No new taxes George H. W. Bush from his 1992 campaign in which he said he wouldn't raise taxes; actually, it's simply based on a line from the song "The Universe Is You". It sold about 3 million copies in the UK, (*) and over 7 million worldwide.
"Take Me Home" and "Murder on the Dancefloor" were released as singles in 2001 and both became substantial UK Top 3 hits, the latter staying on the charts for several months. These singles were followed in 2002 by "Music gets the Best of me" and "Get Over You," two further hit singles. The album was re-released for the second batch of singles, and included three new tracks ("Music gets the Best of me", "Get Over You", and "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" - Live version). The original length was 40:32.
