Radio Live is a New Zealand talkback radio network owned by CanWest MediaWorks NZ. Radioworks launched the network to go head-to-head with the radio network Newstalk ZB, but has had very poor ratings compared to ZB. In the 2006 rating season, the network rated bottom five stations in all markets surveyed.
The network launched on April 11, 2005 on FM frequencies throughout the country, making it the first time in New Zealand a station began broadcasting nationwide on the same day. Some frequencies of the station previously belonged to the station Radio Pacific (also owned by Radioworks), with other frequencies being found for Radio Pacific in those markets.
One major difference between Radio Live and its target rival, Newstalk ZB, is there is very little local input in each market. Except for the Auckland station, commercials and promotions are the only local content. By contrast, Newstalk ZB provides local news and weather in almost every market.
As Radio Live took over Radio Pacific at Radiwork's news and information network, so to Radio Live News took over Radio Pacific's Global News as Radiowork's news service. The service produces news updates for all stations owned by Radioworks or belonging to a Radioworks network.
Radio Live News advertises itself as "the first fully integrated newsroom" in New Zealand, meaning reporters are able to interupt Radio Live programming with breaking news reports or interact directly with Radio Live presenters, even when the presenters are in a completely different location.
