Rachel Portman (born 11 December, 1960, Haslemere, England) is a British composer, best known for her film work. She was the first woman composer to win an Academy Award (for Emma, 1996). She later received praise for her scores to the films The Cider House Rules (1999), The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) and Chocolat (2000). For television, she composed the score for Jim Henson's The Storyteller.

Portman was educated at Oxford University, (Worcester College).
