Psycho is a 1998 film, reproducing the Alfred Hitchcock version of 1960 nearly shot-for-shot, directed by Gus Van Sant. Both films are based on the novel Psycho by Robert Bloch.
The remake is in colour and features a different cast, but aside from this it is a virtually shot for shot remake that copies Hitchcock's camera movements and editing. A few small changes are introduced to make the content more explicit, compared to the original movie's sexual subtext, and the murder sequences are intercut with surreal dream images.
Anne Heche plays Marion Crane, with Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates, William H. Macy as Arbogast, Viggo Mortensen as Sam Loomis, Julianne Moore as Lila Crane, and Robert Forster as the psychiatrist.
This version of Psycho received mixed reviews, and was awarded a Golden Raspberry Award.
