Procreative liberty is a term referring to the freedom to decide whether or not to have children, or, more generally, the freedom to control one's reproductive capacity.
Advocates of procreative liberty actively support the maximization of reproductive rights in a safe, ethical, and responsible manner. Issues related to procreative liberty include the right to initiate or terminate a pregnancy, assisted reproduction (e.g. IVF), gene therapies and enhancements, human cloning, fertilizing ovum without sperm, fertilizing two sperm, ectogenesis (artificial wombs), adoption, and alternative family arrangements (including gay marriage and polyamory).
The term was coined by John A. Robertson, a professor of law and bioethics at the University of Texas School of Law.
