Praděd (german Altvater) (1491 meters) is the highest mountain of Hrubý Jeseník mountains and Moravia and it's fifth highest mountain of Czech republic. Average year temperature is about 1°Celsia. Television transmitter is on the top, 162 m high. Upper platform is used as watchtower.

History of transmitter

First building on the moutain was stone watchtower, 32 m high.It was built since 1903 to 1912 by Sudeten german tourist association. Watchtower crashed at 2nd May 1959.Reason was bad condition, because owner, Sudeten German tourist association, didin't exist, because all Germans was moved to Germany after World War II.(See Expulsion of Germans after World War II

In 1968, it was started build of transmitter. Build works were ended in 1983. Restaurant is in transmitter, and if you want to go to there, you can go by good tarmac road. You can see High Tatras, Lesser Fatra and Alps from watch platform.
