A portable building is a manufactured building that is built off site and moved in upon completion of site and utility work. Sometimes called a modular building, portable buildings can be different in that they are used more on a temporary basis as in a temporary classroom.

Due to population increases in many school districts, portable buildings are brought in to provide relief from overcrowding. Portable classroom buildings usually include two classrooms separated by a partition wall and a bathroom.

Smaller portable buildings have a variety of uses such as, garden sheds, guard shacks, rural offices, etc...
