Pope Alexander I was Pope from about 106 to 115. The Vatican's "Annuario Pontificio" (2003) identifies him as a Roman who reigned from 108 or 109 to 116 or 119. Many have identified him as a martyr, but there appears to be no historical evidence supporting such a conclusion.
Eusebius, in Ecclesiastical History IV, IV, 1, states that Alexander died in the third year of the Roman Emperor Hadrian's reign, after holding the office of bishop of the Romans for ten years.
