Pont-Saint-Esprit is a commune of southern France, in the Gard département. Population (1999): 9,265 (Spiripontains).

The Ardèche River flows through the commune.

An outbreak of disease marked by acute psychotic episodes and various physical symptoms occurred in 1951 in Pont-Saint-Esprit, which caused more than 200 cases and 4 or more deaths. It was initially blamed on ergotism, but further analysis suggests the incident may have been caused by flour accidentally tainted with fungicide.
