A podcatcher is a computer program used to automatically download podcasts. It is a form of aggregator, and can also transfer received audio files to a portable media player.
The term podcatcher was first dubbed by Kevin C. Tofel on October 9, 2004 in an on-line review of Doppler, which was one of the first podcatchers for the Windows platform. This review was the basis for one of the first print mentions of podcatchers in the February 2005 issue of Pocket PC Magazine.
The most popular podcatcher is generally considered to be Juice.
