"Pinkeye" is episode 107 of Comedy Central's animated series South Park. It originally aired on October 29, 1997.

Synopsis

The Mir space station crashes on top of Kenny the day before Halloween. A fluke accident involving Worcestershire sauce at the morgue turns Kenny into a zombie, causing most of the town to eventually turn into zombies as well.

The rest of the boys are too busy preparing for Halloween and the big costume contest to realize that Kenny is a zombie, but end up saving the day anyway.

Plot

The Mir space station crashes onto Kenny at the bus stop on October 30, killing him. He is then taken to the morgue where he is drained and filled with embalming fluid. However, the coroner's bottle of Worcestershire sauce falls into the embalming fluid and turns Kenny into a zombie. He breaks out of the morgue, and bites the two coroners on his way out.

The next morning, Kenny shows up at the bus stop while the boys are waiting to go to school. Each boy is dressed up for the costume contest at school (for which the top prize is two tons of candy).

At the local doctor’s office, the coroners workers have apparently turned into zombies, however the doctor diagnoses it as pinkeye.

The kids arrive at school only to discover everyone in the class, including Mr. Hat, has dressed up as Chewbacca save Mr. Garrison who is dressed as Marilyn Monroe.

Meanwhile, at the Cartman house, Eric’s mom decorates the house and yard for Halloween, completely oblivious to the zombies attacking people on the street.

Back at school Kyle, disgruntled that he has the same costume as everyone else, decides to work a new costume for the contest while Principal Victoria and Chef are upset over Cartman’s Hitler costume. Principal Victoria makes Eric a ghost costume to amend the problem (however it ends up looking like a KKK outfit instead, angering Chef unintentionally).

Kyle arrives at the costume contest with a new costume (a working model of the solar system), but Wendy’s Chewbacca costumes earns her first place and the two tons of candy which she gives away to starving children in Nairobi. Stan wins the "worst costume ever" prize, and everyone laughs at him.

Across South Park the zombies continue to attack although everyone still believes it is simply pinkeye. As night falls on South Park the boys prepare to go trick-or-treating just as Chef realizes that the pinkeye epidemic is actually a wave of the living dead. Wendy tries to apologize for humiliating Stan, but Stan rejects her. Wendy is later turned into a zombie.

Chef goes to the doctor to try to explain what’s going on, but he doesn’t believe Chef. The doctor is eaten by zombies later. So, Chef heads to the mayor’s office to warn her and Officer Barbrady (who are up to something kinky). However, they don't believe Chef either.

As the zombies continue to ravage the town, the boys, also oblivious of the zombies, head off to go trick-or-treating. However, before receiving treats Kenny keeps biting everyone so they don't get any candy. Eventually the boys ditch Kenny and head to Chef’s house. Chef pulls the boys inside and after some discussion head to the morgue to get to the bottom of the zombie matter.

While at the morgue they discover the bottle of Worcestershire sauce as well as an issue of "Crack Whore Monthly" magazine with a picture of Cartman's mom on the cover. The zombies eventually attack the morgue turning Chef into a zombie (who then goes into Michael Jackson's "Thriller" mode). The boys call the hotline number on the bottle of Worcestershire sauce for assistance.

The hotline person tells them that they have to kill the original zombie, which of course is Kenny. Stan is about to be bitten by Wendy (Because he doesn't want to kill her) when Kyle kills Kenny and everything goes back to normal.

Trivia

  • The Russian that is spoken by the Mir spacestation cosmonauts is complete jibberish, as is the Russian below the warning light on the space station. The word "Stuhl" means "chair" or "feces" in German, but since the subtitle reads "crap" it is most likely a humorous euphemism for shit. Similarly, in the video Principal Victoria shows to Cartman, Hitler's speech consists of German words arranged together nonsensically, while Cartman's speech is a collection of English phrases (including "You don't know shit" and "Seriously, you guys") and random German played backwards.
  • This episode features the news reporter Midget in a Bikini. He returned in the same role in the movie Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
  • When the Midget in a Bikini is broadcasting from downtown, Chef's green station wagon (or someone else's green station wagon) is seen overturned in the camera shot.
  • The "Crack Whore" magazine found by Kyle at the morgue changes its title to "Naughty Mom" shortly after being handed to Chef. It later returns to "Crack Whore".
  • In one of the scenes where the boys are passing through South Park to trick-or-treat as zombies are destroying the town, Jimbo and Ned can be seen perched on top of a building acting as vigilantes.
  • The Worcestershire Sauce company's phone number is 1-800-555-5633. As of January 2006, the number is apparently active, but directs callers to call another number.
  • The inscription on Kenny's tombstone at the end reads "Sleep well, little child, the Lord holds thee now."
  • The Scream Chef Uses when the zombies come into the docter's office is used in Season 10 episode "The Return of Chef!"
  • In the scene where Chef is watching the news in his house, a poster of Isaac Hayes can be seen.
  • Chef is terrified of the halloween costume that Cartman is wearing-a Ku Klux Klan white robe and hood (intended to be a ghost costume designed by the school principle.)

Kenny's Death

  1. Crushed by Mir; revived as a zombie via Worcestershire sauce
  2. Cut in half by Kyle to end zombie curse
  3. Kenny rises from the dead to be crushed by a statue and crashed into by a plane
