Pilobolus is a genus of fungus growing on cow dung.

. (Pilobolus is also the name of a company of choreographers and dancer-athletes.) *

Pilobolus has an interesting life cycle. The pilobolus feeds on cow dung, so in order to get to dung, it has to be eaten by a cow. Because cows avoid their dung,Pilobolus has small vesicles that literally explode ejecting their spores up to 2 meters away from the dung and, hopefully, in green grass. This increases their chance of being eaten.

The Pilobolus fungus consists of a sporangium on the tip of a swollen stalk,a light sensitive region below the swollen tip. There are drops of water along the stalk.
