Pentonville is an area of London in the borough of Islington, around the Pentonville Road. It is not the location of HM Prison Pentonville, (affectionately known by criminals as "The Ville"), which is located in the Caledonian Road, London N7, quite a distance north in Barnsbury.

Nearby places include Islington, St. Pancras, and Finsbury. The closest tube station is Angel.

Pentonville is John Stuart Mill's birthplace (20 May 1806).

Pentonville was part of the ancient parish of Clerkenwell, and was incorporated into the Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury by the London Government Act 1899. It has been part of the London Borough of Islington since 1965.

Pentonville is an experimental reggae track on the Babyshambles album Down in Albion.
