Paul Sheldon is a character in the book Misery written by Stephen King and a movie of the same title. He was potrayed by James Caan in the film version. Paul is the author of, among other books, the immensely popular historic romance book series about his own fictional charater Misery Chastain. One day he suffers a car crash, and is kidnapped by Annie Wilkes. He struggles to escape the clutches of the mad woman, and in the end, does so by killing Wilkes.
