Parkstad Limburg is a collaboration between 7 cities (Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Brunssum, Simpelveld, Voerendaal and Onderbanken). They work together to make the facilities, wealth, wellbeing and social coherency for the citizens better. This collaboration started in 1999.

It is located in a part of the Netherlands know as the Oostelijke Mijnstreek (eastern mining district, in contrast to the western mining district (Sittard-Geleen)). This district also includes the city of Nuth. And is the second larges agglomeration of the Netherlands (the largest being the Randstad).
