Biography

Parasite are a band from Surrey, England and were formed in 1998 by Adam Scanlon and Deok-jin Joo, Rupert Handley joined very soon after. In 1999 Murray Boyton, Patrick Martin and Ian Moore all joined, and Deok-jin moved back to South Korea. By 2001 the lineup was Adam, Rupert and Murray and only a couple of poor quality demos had been achieved. By Summer 2001 it was just Adam, who recorded "The Seismic Activity EP", by December things were moving forward: Iain Ballantine joined. Over the next few years the first album (The Infection) and some more weird stuff was recorded, hope restored in the band so much that Rupert rejoined. Parasite became regular exponents of innappropriate music at parties, until Iain had had enough and he left. Rupert and Adam eventually scraped together a lineup now featuring Marcus Belassie and Will Saunders as the new rhythm section, but this was reasonably shortlived, Marcus only lasting a few months, and it was during the recording of the second album (The Ancient Modern) that Rupert left again in January 2005. Over the Summer of 2005 Parasite recorded a third album entitled "The Spring Collection". In 2006 new material is being worked on and now with a stable lineup of Adam and Will, a growing fanbase and more regular and more successful gigs, the band seems to be back on its feet.
