Paranaguá is a city in the state of Paraná in Brazil. Founded around 1600, in 1991 it had a population of 88,163. Its population was 144,797 as of January 2005.
It is known for its excellent port facilities, being the sea port for Curitiba, the capital of Paraná state.
Location: 25.7°S and 48.7°W
Although Paranaguá is situated in the south part of Brazil, where temperatures are cooler, it is know for its extremely hot summers and mild winters.
Summer
Paranaguá is probably Paraná's hottest city in the summer. Temperatures exceeding the 40°C mark are very common in January - the hottest month.
Winter
Although July is considered by most to be the coldest month in the south hemisphere, the coolest month in Paranaguá is actually September (the last winter month and the beginning of spring), with an average temperature of 15°C, and around 9°C in the coldest days of the year.
