Outside is a magazine focused on the outdoors. The first issue debuted in 1978, and a letter inside claimed the magazine was "dedicated to covering the people, sports and activities, politics, art, literature, and hardware of the outdoors..." which is a philosophy that is still kept today.

It is known as the magazine that launched the career of Jon Krakauer, an investigative journalist.
