Orono is a town located in Penobscot County, Maine. It was first settled in 1774 and named in honor of Chief Joseph Orono of the Penobscot Nation. It is home to The University of Maine.
There are 2,691 households out of which 21.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.6% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 52.0% are non-families. 31.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
