Based on numerology, numbers and professions are believed to be related. Numerology is the study of the purported mystical relationship between numbers and the character or action of physical objects and living things. Numerology and numerological divination were popular among early mathematicians such as Pythagoras, but are no longer considered to be part of mathematics and are now regarded as pseudoscience by most mathematicians.

The fundamental premise of numerology is that life, and the universe as a whole, is an orderly system, and that numbers reflect that orderliness. Numbers are by definition orderly. The fundamental premise of numerology is that life, and the universe as a whole, is an orderly system; that numbers reflect that orderliness; and numbers are by definition orderly. And, this has been perhaps expressed euphemistically by Albert Einstein when he stated that: "At any rate, I am convinced that God does not play dice".

Esoteric significance of numbers and their relationship to professions are beliefs of numerologists, and it may be noted that there is no conclusive scientific or mathematical evidence to show that numbers and professions are inter-related.
