North Druid Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 18,852 at the 2000 census.
Geography
North Druid Hills is located at (33.819654, -84.328061).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²). 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.20% is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 18,852 people, 9,760 households, and 3,074 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,464.5/km² (3,790.0/mi²). There were 10,240 housing units at an average density of 795.5/km² (2,058.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.50% White, 7.30% African American, 0.15% Native American, 6.73% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.32% of the population.
There were 9,760 households out of which 10.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 24.9% are couples living together, 4.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 68.5% were non-families. 45.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.84 and the average family size was 2.67.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 9.9% under the age of 18, 16.6% from 18 to 24, 40.8% from 25 to 44, 16.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $48,530, and the median income for a family was $67,956. Males had a median income of $45,313 versus $37,327 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $33,288. About 4.9% of families and 13.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.3% of those under age 18 and 8.4% of those age 65 or over.
