The Norfolk Broads are the northern part of the area covered by The Broads, an area similar to a national park. The southern part lies within north Suffolk and the Broads are sometimes collectively referred to as the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, but many people simply call the entire system the Norfolk Broads. They are a man made creation, resulting from peat being excavated for use as fuel. These workings were then flooded by the rising water table.
