The Nomina Anatomica was one of the most popular systems for providing topographical codes in the 20th century.
It was created by the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA). However, that slowed down midcentury. Recently, the Terminologia Anatomica has built upon that work, providing unique names in Latin, English equivalents, and numerical codes for several thousand anatomic structures. However, the Nomina Anatomica is still commonly used.
