Mukriyan, is a region of Iran located containing the cities of Mahabad,Piranshahr,Sardasht,Bukan,Oshnaviyeh,Miandoab,Naghadeh and Shahindej.This region at the moment is part of West Azarbaijan Province in Iran. Majority of the population of this region except in Miandoab and Naghadeh are kurds and are called Mukri kurds. In the end of 15th century Mukri tribes conquered this region and ruled it until the middle of 19th century. The region is famous for its unique granite rock formations with the majority being found near Piranshahr.
