The Rio Mondego (pron. IPA: //; English language: Mondego River) is the biggest river exclusively in Portuguese territory. It rises in the Serra da Estrela, which is the biggest mountain in range mainland Portugal (i.e. except the Portuguese islands), with its highest peak at 1993 m above the sea level. It runs 234 km from Gouveia municipality (at 1425 meters) in Serra da Estrela, to its mouth at the city of Figueira da Foz to empty in the Atlantic Ocean. It crosses the city of Coimbra and Montemor-o-Velho municipalty.
