Michael Mostyn was the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Member of Parliament in the Ontario riding of York Centre in the 2004 election and 2006 federal election. He was defeated both times by Liberal Party of Canada candidate Ken Dryden. He increased previous Conservative vote totals in both elections, receiving over 30% of the popular vote in 2006.
Michael Mostyn was born and raised in Toronto, moving with his family to the riding of York Centre in 1980. A third generation Canadian with strong family roots stretching throughout Ontario, Michael attended two local York Centre high schools, the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto, and graduated as an Ontario Scholar from William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute.
In 1996, Michael received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario. During his time as an undergraduate, Michael was a member of the Dean's Honour List, as well as a recipient of the Honour W Award. Graduating from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1999, Michael was awarded the Douglas May Memorial Award , and was asked to deliver a paper at the 14th BILETA Conference: Cyberspace 1999: Crime, Criminal Justice, and the Internet at the College of Ripon and York St. John, York, England.
Called to the Bar in the Province of Ontario in 2001, Michael currently practices law at Mostyn & Mostyn, Barristers and Solicitors in the areas of civil litigation, entertainment law, criminal law, family law, and wills and estates.
As Legal Advisor to "Sponsor Your Parents", Michael advocates for fair and transparent government dealings on parental class sponsorships, and he has published articles on issues from terrorism in Canada to human rights concerns in North Korea.
Michael is Director of the Canadian Coalition for Democracies, and a member of B'nai Brith Canada. He was also on an organizing committee for United Israel Appeal Young Leadership Conference '05.
