Michael Mitchell is a former indigenous Australian rules football player for the Richmond Football Club in the VFL/AFL.

Mitchell, from Western Australia was an exciting footballer in the 1980s and early 1990s, but during some of the Richmond Football Clubs less exciting years in terms of onfield performance. His play featured blistering pace, high leap, and that uncanny knack of doing brilliant things.

He achieved All-Australian selection in 1985 and 1986.

In 1990 he achieved both Mark of the Year and Goal of The Year awards in the same year - the only player in the history of the competition to do so.

A lightly built player, Mitchell was not known for his physical presence. His career was cut short by several head injuries and concussions sustained during his playing years.

At the end of his AFL career, Mitchell returned to playing country football in Western Australia.
