Michael Buffer (born November 2, 1944) is a well-known American boxing, Mixed martial arts and wrestling ring announcer.
With his tuxedo and famous catchphrase "Let's get ready to rumble!", Buffer has become one of the most recognized faces in the world of sports entertainment thanks to his 20 plus years of announcing many of the biggest championship boxing events. In addition to being his personal catchphrase, "Let's get ready to rumble!" is a registered trademark in the United States.
Buffer's catchphrase has provided him with many media opportunities. He has been animated in the hit animated series The Simpsons and South Park, has been a guest of shock radio DJ Howard Stern multiple times, provided the voice on a number one hit single "Lets Get Ready To Rumble (USA)" and appears in boxing video game Ready 2 Rumble. His famous phrase was on Jock Jams, and was incorporated into the Jock Jam megamix. He even lent his voice to the Nintendo 64 game ClayFighter 63 1/3, where he spoke a variation of his famous phrase before every match. He was also the special ring announcer for World Championship Wrestling.
Buffer also made a cameo appearance in a New York Lottery commercial.
Trivia
- Michael's half-brother Bruce Buffer is also an announcer. Bruce announces for the UFC.
- During his stint in WCW, he was parodied in the WWF by Triple H and the rest of D-Generation X. In a play on Buffer, Triple H would say into the mic, "Let's get ready to Suck It!" This parody returned in 2006 upon the D-X reunion, even though Buffer doesn't announce at any pro wrestling events right now.
- Michael's hometown is Philadelphia, he is 6'0" tall and has brown eyes
- A brand new action figure of Michael Buffer is scheduled for release in Jakks Pacific's upcoming Rocky series
- On WWE's On-Demand subscription channel: WWE 24/7 his voice is edited and there is no close ups of him or his famous "lets get ready to rumble" speech when he was the special guest ring announcer in WCW.
- Michael Buffer features in a KOs song named "Go for it all!", where his catchphrase "Let's get ready to rumble" is also heard.
