Meskwaki (also known as Fox) is an Algonquian language spoken by approximately 700 people in and around Tama, Iowa, most of whom are elderly or middle-aged. There are no children learning the language, and its future prospects seem unsure at best. Prominent scholars doing research on this language include Ives Goddard of the Smithsonian Institution and Amy Dahlstrom of the University of Chicago.
