Matthew Freud, born 1963, is head of Freud Communications Limited. He is the great-grandson of the founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, the son of British writer Clement Freud, formerly an MP, and the nephew of artist Lucian Freud. His sister is Emma Freud, the wife of Richard Curtis.
Freud's first wife was Caroline Hutton (now The Countess Spencer, the second wife of the 9th Earl Spencer), by whom he had two sons. His second wife, to whom he was also her second husband, is Elisabeth Murdoch, second daughter of media-magnate Rupert Murdoch, by whom he had a daughter, Charlotte.
Curiously, thus Rupert Murdoch can claim some kind of kinship to Diana, Princess of Wales via his daughter's marriage to the former husband of Diana's brother's second wife.
Matthew Freud and his present wife Elisabeth Murdoch are considered one of the United Kingdom's "power couples"; each for their family associations, he for his own profession in public relations, and she for her work as a businesswoman.
In May 2005, in partnership with Piers Morgan, he gained ownership of the Press Gazette, a media trade publication & its 'cash cow' the British Press Awards, in a deal worth £1million.*" target="_blank" >An apparent conflict of interest in this ownership is cited as one of the reasons many major newspapers have boycotted the 2006 awards.[http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2006/01/24/ccslade24.xml&menuId=242&sSheet=/money/2006/01/24/ixcoms.html
