MathCad is a computer algebra system somewhat similar to Mathematica or Maple, and oriented towards ease of use and applications such as plotting. It is distributed by Mathsoft. MathCad has a "notebook" frontend interface similar to Scientific Notebook, and is easy and intuitive to use, making use of point-and-click layouts and keystrokes for basic tasks, such as plotting functions or data sets.
Some of Mathcad's mathematical capabilities are based on a subset (MKM aka Mathsoft Kernel Maple) of the Maple computer algebra system.
It is oriented around a worksheet, in which equations and expressions are displayed graphically, as opposed to plain text.
Among the capabilities of MathCad are:
Despite this program is mostly oriented to the non-programming users, it is also used in more complex projects to visualise results of the mathematical modelling using distributed computing and traditional programming languages.
