Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a fighting game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Nintendo DS, and PSP, and ties in to the Marvel Nemesis comic series. It pitches a series of Marvel heroes and villains, including Captain America, Venom, Wolverine, Dr. Doom, Iron Man, and Spider-Man against a series of original Marvel-owned, EA-created characters. Combat is simplified in favor of allowing the player greater movement, and the game is already drawing comparisons to Power Stone, Super Smash Bros. and Ehrgeiz as a result. The video game is also based on the Marvel Comic book series with the same name, namely a 6-issue miniseries.

Full list of playable characters

Marvel

Spider-Man: Can grab far away objects by pulling them toward him with his web (R + Grab Button); web-slings (Jump then press L); somersaults (Block then push control stick in any direction to evade); moderate super strength (can pick up cars).

Wolverine: Regenerates over time; pops out claws when R is pressed; Runs faster (and wall runs) when L is pressed; Impales enemies when R + Grab buttons are pressed.

Iron Man: Flies with ease and speed (Press L and move control stick to control direction); shoots repulsor blasts from long range (R + Attack button).

Captain America (as PSP exclusive): When he blocks, is almost invincible due to impenetrable shield. Can run up walls similar to Wolverine when L is pressed.

Dr. Doom (as PSP exclusive): Pretty strong but slight difficulties in controlling his electricity powers. Has a jetpack on his back which can be used by holding down L.

Human Torch: (only for console games and the Nintendo DS game) Can fly and shoot fireballs.

The Thing: Slow moving but strong; can take a lot of damage. Is one of only a few characters to not have a long-range special attack.

Storm: Flies fluidly and shoots electricity. One of the weakest characters who can only pick up light objects.

Magneto: Possibly the most powerful character in the game. Can grab metal objects from far away using magnetic powers. Also shoots energy blasts at enemies, and can fly when L is pressed.

Daredevil: (only for console games and the Nintendo DS game) Takes out billy club when R is pressed. Jump and press L to shoot cord out, and move like a web-slinger.

Elektra: Takes out sais when R is pressed. She'll throw tiny daggers (R and attack). She is one of the weakest characters but is very acrobatic.

Venom: He and Spider-Man share identical moves, but Venom is stronger and less agile. Also, his long distance impact webbing is much more powerful than Spidey's long distance web needles.

Imperfects

Johnny Ohm: Limited flying capacity using electricity. Shoots powerful electric blasts from long range. Has a powerful uppercut move useable during combat.

Brigade: Two mechanical arms with long range capabilities. Is prone to breakdowns if superpower bar depletes due to multiple psyches.

Solara: Similar to Human Torch. Flies and can shoot homing fireballs during flight. Is considered one of the game's best characters.

The Wink: Can teleport with ease to bewilder opponents with a flurry of moves. Can also create a shield with tentacles on her back. One of the few Imperfects not to have a long-range attack.

Fault Zone: Creates seismic activity (earthquakes) to take down opponents. Is one of the weakest Imperfects. The only other Imperfect (apart from The Wink) not to have a long-range attack.

Hazmat: A living disease, contained within a scientist. Shoots corrosive acid. Also has the ability to perform each of Spider-Man's abilities, due to their similarities.

Paragon: The one supposed "perfect" being. Similar to The Wink in nearly every way except for her long-range attack.

Niles Van Roekel (Main Villain): Flies around in a mechanical suit similar to Iron Man's. The game's main villain and end-game boss.

Continuity Problems

In the game there is a device called " Turlin Neural Device". In the biography on the other side of the card which is card 17 for what it is and what it does, it says that it controls anyone that wears it. Halfway through the game Venom uses it and he controls it.This goes against its biography and the use of it on Daredevil , The Thing and other heroes.

Criticism

While the game was still in development, it was first identified as Marvel vs. EA. This quickly drew comparisons to the Marvel vs. Capcom series, mostly negative due to EA's general lack of independent properties and original characters, compared to Capcom's Street Fighter and Mega Man series, as well as the many other original games they drew from for similar collaborative efforts (see also Namco X Capcom).

After its initial release, Marvel Nemesis received numerous below average scores, and was derided as a failure by many magazines and websites. Some of the complaints were overly simplistic controls, poor AI, bland character roster, easy difficulty, bad camera problems, and bad graphics, among others.

EA is not currently scheduled to make a sequel.
