Marstons Mills is a village in the city of Barnstable, Massachusetts. It is primarily residential and located on Route 28, and is rural in nature. Main roads also include Route 149, Wakeby Road, Old Post Road (partially unpaved) and Santuit-Newton Road. Marstons Mills has two elementary schools, Marstons Mills Elementary and Marstons Mills East Elementary Horace Mann Charter School (MME). Marstons Mills Elementary School houses students grades K-2. Marstons Mills students that attend that school attend neighboring Cotuit Elementary School for grades 3 and 4. From the mid-1990s until 2003, Marstons Mills Middle School housed grades 6 through 8. After the closing of the town's fifth grade building, the Marstons Mills Middle School recombined with Barnstable Middle School at Hyannis in Hyannis, Barnstable. The building that housed MMMS was then converted to Barnstable Horace Mann Charter School, with students in grades 5 and 6. Main Street
Main Street Marstons Mills is mostly residential, with
Liberty Hall and the
Marstons Mills Public Library located on the road. Main Street is near the
Herring Run, and a road over from
Route 149. Several roads connect Route 149 to
Main Street. Most people mistake Route 149 for Main Sreet, mainly because of the Mobil Station, Cash Market and other stores.
Lakes
Marstons Mills has many notable lakes and ponds, including Hamblin's Pond, Mystic Lake, Middle Pond, and Shubaels Pond on Route 149. Marstons Mills has no salt-water beaches. Although Prince Cove is salt water access there isn't a public beach, only a town-owned Marina and boat ramp.
Shopping
In recent years, Marstons Mills has become an established shopping district.
Marstons Mills Marketplace is anchored by a Stop and Shop Supermarket, with a Citizen's Bank and a Staples conveniently located inside of the store. Adjacent to this marketplace is
Cotuit Landing, with Re/Max Liberty Real Estate, Brooks Pharmacy, Aubuchon Hardware, and Pizza Wave, among other businesses. Also located at Cotuit Landing is Cape Leisure and a Bank of America branch. Across from
Cotuit Landing there is a CVS, and adjacent to the CVS is
Windmill Square, with an Eastern Bank, Dunkin' Donuts, the Mid-Cape Animal Hospital, and various other stores and offices. Pepper's Cotuit Pantry, a convinience store with a bakery and food service all day, is located less than one minute from these shopping centers.
Recreation
Marstons Mills is most well known for its wonderful landscape, with arguably the most trees of any village in Barnstable.
Burgess Park, as well as the
Herring Run provide excellent leisure oppurtunities for adults and children of all ages. Also, the Long Pond Conservation has a scenic bike path (off of Newton Road). Beware of Nudists.
