Mark Emmert has, since 2004, been the 30th president of the University of Washington, and is a former chancellor of Louisiana State University.
Emmert, who is a University of Washington alumnus, grew up in Fife, Washington, one of two brothers. He married his high school sweetheart, DeLaine Smith, at Fife Presbyterian Church, and they have two children, Stephen and Jennifer.
Emmert held faculty and administrative positions at the University of Colorado from 1985 to 1992, then spent four years at Montana State University. There he became provost and vice president for academic affairs. In 1995 he moved to the University of Connecticut. In 1999 he left Connecticut for Louisiana State University.
