Rebecca Marjorie Proops (born in East London) (10 August 1911-10 November 1996) was a British agony aunt, writing the column Dear Marje for the Daily Mirror. She was probably the best known agony aunt in the UK.

She was educated at Dalston Secondary School in London and in 1935 married military man Sidney Joseph Proops, they had a son called Robert.

In 1939 Proops became a journalist, her first job was as the fashion correspondent of the Daily Mirror. Several years later the problem page editor died and she was given the job of reading and answering the mail. Proops soon became the Agony Aunt, a post she would hold until her death.

Bruce Rioch, then managing Arsenal in 1996, made the comment that he 'felt like Marje Proops'. This was later given as one of the reasons for his dismissal.

She appeared on radio including appearances on the BBC Radio 4 comedy programme Just a Minute, which was chaired by Nicholas Parsons.

In 1975 she wrote the book Pride, Prejudice and Proops (Time Remembered) this was followed by Dear Marje a year later.

She was appointed OBE in 1969.

She is buried at Golders Green Jewish Cemetery, London, England.

Marjorie Proops
