Mantak Chia (b. 1944) is an author, teacher and self-described healer. He is most well-known for his New Age books on Taoism, Qi Gong and mystical sexuality.
He was born in Bangkok to Chinese parents, and raised as a Christian. He taught in Bangkok and in New York, where he founded the system known as the Healing Tao. His teaching is not without controversy, especially among the Chinese martial art community.
Among his books are "Taoist Secrets of Love" and "The Multi-Orgasmic Man". One of his theories, in common with Tantrism, is that men lose sexual energy by ejaculation, and women through menstruation. According to Chia's teachings, also shared generally traditional Chinese medicine, Jing (sexual energy), can be transformed into qi (a different form of energy) and then into Shen (spiritual energy).
The Healing Tao also includes practices like Iron Shirt, and Tao Yin, practices that, according to the author, address the spiritual side of human being, and that he claims will let them reach a form of spiritual immortality.
