Madeline Margaret Genevieve Miranda Catherine Fitzpatrick, or Maddie for convinience, is a fictional character in the Disney Channel situation comedy The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Maddie is played by Ashley Tisdale.
Character information
Ashley Tisdale's character Maddie is a sixteen-year-old teen in Boston working as a candy counter girl at the Tipton Hotel. She is very sharp and she dresses casually, more like a school girl. She is often seen in her Tipton uniform. She is Zack's dream woman. Maddie has a kind personality and she is not rich (the exact opposite of her best friend, London, a dumb rich girl who treats Maddie more like a servant rather than a friend, but Maddie still likes her because she's the only true friend of London.) She is a strong supporter of environmental causes and she has dreamed of going to Paris, ever since she planned to go there for her parents' 25th anniversary. Maddie is very caring and helpful towards others. She is part Irish and is also afraid of evil leprechauns. Maddie will do anything for London if she is paid.
Maddie's Job{s}
Maddie works as the candy counter girl at the Tipton. She wears a uniform designed by herself but in "Grounded on the 23rd Floor" she was wearing a different outfit. She also works in the Tipton's day care program watching the kids. She occasionally babysits Zack and Cody. Carey hired her because she needed the money. In an episode where London started a fashion store, Maddie worked as a sales clerk, but later quit when London told her she wouldn't be able to pay her that week.
Maddie's family
Her full name is Madeline Margaret Genevieve Miranda Catherine Fitzpatrick. Her father's name is Irving. Despite being lower middle class, she often dresses preppy, and her uniform is a blue shirt with a green plaid skirt and high worn boots with a loose tie. Maddie attends a Catholic school in Boston and is a very large supporter of environmental causes. Maddie is often called "sweet thang" by Zack. Even though London treats Maddie more like a servant than a friend, Maddie still likes her. She and her family live in an apartment across the street from Fenway Park. Her parents are never seen (except once as shadows behind a door) but are always heard argueing. She has a loving grandmother who lives in Seattle, an older sister named Genevieve who got married and moved elsewhere, and an irresponsible and rude "booger" of a little-brother named Liam.
Maddie's romances
Maddie catches the heart of Zack, but she rejects him, because of their age difference. She has many crushes (none of them are perfect), but she hints that something might happen between her and Zack in the episode "A Prom Story". Most boyfriends work at or frequent The Tipton hotel. Past boyfriends include the Tipton's lifeguard Lance and the Tipton's waiter Chuck. Some of her dates are a gift from London setting up double dates; London sets her up on blind dates, and she likes to watch and see what happens. Maddie likes most of them, but she has not really "hooked on" to one man of her choice or London's. She catches the heart of troublesome Randall, a kid who went to day care at the Tipton.
Maddie looks for sense of humor, care, and level of smartness in a man rather than looks.
Maddie and London
Her friendship with London is quite complex; Maddie acts like her and London aren't very good friends; if friends at all but whenever London needs Maddie she eventually (whether forced or not) comes through for her; In "Poor Little Rich Girl", Maddie although not wanting for London to be at her house, she introduces London to the real world; and grows accustomed to London living with her; Maddie and London's friendship really shows its true colours until London leaves and returns to her suite (due to her father regaining his money), Maddie despairs wishing for the London she was shown during the time of her stay thinking "The Old London" was back although London comes back and takes Maddie to a fancy restaurant as they had made lunch plans.
Maddie reveals that she has always been jealous of London in "Poor Little Rich Girl", although she learns there isn't much to be jealous of (besides her money) but realizes that she missed out on the family events.
Throughout the season, their friendship improves; Maddie starts with a scowl when London calls on her then slowly becoming more comfortable; and London slowly calls on Maddie less and begins to help her more (like getting her out of work to go shopping with her).
In the episode, "The Suite Smell of Excess" when Zack and Cody went into an alternate universe with Arwin's invention, Maddie and London had switched places. Maddie was now an air-headed heiress to the elite Fitzpatrick hotel, while London was now a more intelligent candy girl.
London sometimes bribes Maddie with money.

- Even though Maddie is 16, Ashley Tisdale, who plays her, is 21. Maddie was 15 before "Not So Suite 16".
- Maddie is middle class, and yet she can still afford to attend a Catholic school. She states in one episode that she has attended the school since kindergarten, making it unlikely she was awarded a scholarship.
- Maddie has asthma.
- Maddie has a dog named Scamp. Scamp is named after one of the puppies in "Lady and the Tramp".
- Maddie's name in the original script was Lena Margaret Genevieve Miranda Catherine Fitzpatrick.
- Maddie's hair tends to frizz in humidity.
- When London hooks Maddie up on a blind date with a smart person, she says they are so smart, she and her blind date can communicate telepathically.
- Maddie has a younger brother named Liam. She has an older sister named Genevieve, whose name is also one of Maddie's numerous middle names.
- In "A Prom Story", Maddie said she had a sister named Genevieve Fitzpatrick, but in "Not So Sweet 16", all of her family members showed up except Genevieve (although it is likely Genevieve is probably serious into her marriage.) "Poor Little Rich Girl" indicated that Genevieve has married and lives elsewhere.
- Maddie believes in evil laprachauns.
- Although Maddie's last name is Fitzpatrick on the show, on the website, she's called Maddie Fitzgerald.
- Even though she constantly makes fun of London's dumbness, they are still very close friends
