Madeleine Sherwood (born Madeleine Louise Hélène Thornton on November 13, 1922 in Outremont, Quebec) is a Canadian actress, best known for her role as the Reverend Mother Superior on the sitcom The Flying Nun.
Sherwood, born to an Anglophone father and a Francophone mother, was ironically born and raised in a town which was founded by nuns. In addition to The Flying Nun, Sherwood has acted in over three dozen television series. She also appeared in many films, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1958, playing Mae Flynn Pollitt.
She is a longtime resident and citizen of the United States.
Her longtime spouse is Robert Maurice Sherwood.
