MacNN (Macintosh News Network) is a website with a primary focus on posting news and information regarding Apple Computer. In addition to posting news directly related to Apple, MacNN reports on stories it believes are of interest to the Apple community.
In 2001 MacNN was sold to NewsFactor Network. Negative reader reaction to the heavy-handedness of the takeover resulted in the sale being reversed, with the one stipulation being that MacNN carry a NewsFactorNetwork headline box at the bottom of the news page for a full year. Thus, MacNN emerged intact and has been under its original ownership of Monish Bhatia ever since.
At one point (1999–2001 or so), MacNN had an iMac portal called iMac2Day featuring iMac-specific news. This was deactivated in mid 2001 or so and folded into the main page at MacNN.com.
There used to be DealNN (a Mac-centric deal site), which died around mid-2003. A re-launch of the site is rumored for 2005.
In 2005, MacNN launched iPodNN, an iPod news site.
In April 2005, the forums were upgraded to vBulletin 3.0, implemented primarily by former MacNN administrator, Nick Aziz.
The GUI Customization forum is the defacto center for Mac OS X GUI customization.
