MOTO (Mail Order / Telephone Order) means, in credit card business, accepting card payments by mail or phone.

Merchants enter the card and transaction details into a virtual POS, which then authorizes or refuses the transaction by connecting to the credit card network.

• MOTO is also a slang acronym used in the military and elsewhere for "Master of the obvious".
• M.O.T.O. is also used as the abbreviation for the garage punk band of the same name.
