The lycée Charlemagne is located in the Marais quarter of the IVe arrondissement in Paris, France. The building itself was constructed many centuries ago, and before it became a lycée, served as the home of the Order of the Jesuits ; the lycée itself was started in 1804 by Napoléon Bonaparte. Furthermore, the lycée Charlemagne celebrated its bicentennial in 2004.

The lycée is directly connected to the collège Charlemagne (formerly called le Petit lycée) which is located directly across from the lycée, on the rue Charlemagne.

This lycée and its professors all have a generally upstanding reputation.

The lycée equally welcomes classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles, namely two classes of MPSI (mathematics, physics, and scientific engineering), one class of PCSI (physics, chemistry, and scientific engineering), for the first year, as well as one MP (mathematics and physics preperatory students), one MP*, one PC (physics and chemistry preperatory students), and one PC* for the second year.
