The Loveland Lizard (also known as the "Loveland Frog") is a cryptid of Loveland, Ohio USA. It has been reported by two official witnesses, one of whom is unidentified.
The first police officer sighting was on Riverside Avenue along the Little Miami River, see mapearly March 3, 1972. As the Urban Legend goes: The Officer believed that a dog or some other animal was in the middle of the icy road, and slowed as not to hit it. As the vehicle drew close, he found that this was a curious crouching frog-like creature. The creature then stood and kept its eyes on the officer as it made a hasty escape toward the river. The unnamed officer then returned to the scene with another finding only marks of a 50 to 75 pound creature scrambling into the river. No official report was ever filed.
The officer's description allegedly was as follows:
Two weeks later, Officer Mark Mathews reportably saw a creature, again sitting in the middle of the road, beliving it to be roadkill. He stopped just ahead of the creature which rose on two feet and made its way over to the river, but not after the officer had attempted to shoot it on the spot. Mark Mathews, now retired, has stated, "There is absolutely nothing to the incident that relates to 'monsters' or the 'paranormal.' This entire thing has been habitually blown out of proportion..." (According to an E-mail interview.)
Other non-traditional occounts include that of a man driving on the same road on the 25 of May, 1955. In this story, three large frog-like large creatures where seen, one with a strange spark-creating device. Mrs. Darwin Johnson, of Evansville, Indiana, while swimming in the Ohio River on 21 August, 1955, reported being attaked by a creature under-water with long clawlike fingers from a green hand. Stories about farmers seeing the frog-like beast are also common. About.com
