LoveSac is a brand of furniture and accessories manufactured and distributed by the LoveSac Corporation. LoveSac is also a common misnomer for the Oversized Sac product invented in 1995LoveSac History by LoveSac Founder and CEO, Shawn D. Nelson.
Oversized Sacs (or Sacs for short) resemble very large beanbag chairs, but are filled with shredded polyurethane foam rather than polystyrene beads. Most people find that Sacs are superior to beanbags in both comfort and durability. This is due largely to the fact that the polyurethane foam does not degrade over time; with use, traditional beanbag fillings become crushed or compressed and need to be replaced. Consequently, foam-filled sacs are generally more expensive than Beanbag chairs. In an attempt to dinstinguish its products from beanbag chairs, the company has coined the slogan "It's not a damn bean bag!".
Sacs come in different sizes, and all sizes have removable covers that come in various fabrics, patterns and colors. Different sizes of Sac have different names, and the sizes are measured with respect to the approximate diameter of the Sac. KidSacs are three feet in diameter, GameSacs are four feet, MovieSacs are five feet, SuperSacs are six feet, and The Big One is eight feet. Sacs are sold through LoveSac retail stores in the US and on the LoveSac Website.
Sacs are shipped in a vacuum compressed form; when removed from this packaging the foam will expand and the sac will fluff up to its original size. However, once a sac has been "fluffed up" it becomes somewhat difficult to transport due to its large size and weight.
On January 30, 2006, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is an attempt to stay in business while a bankruptcy court supervises the "reorganization" of the company's contractual and debt obligations.
