Lockhart Stadium, originally built in 1959 as an athletic facility for local high schools, is part of a sports complex that also includes Fort Lauderdale Stadium. Lockhart is located just west of I-95, between Commercial Blvd. and Cypress Creek Rd. Lockhart is owned by the City of Fort Lauderdale. In addition to serving as a soccer stadium, the Florida Atlantic University football team plays its home games at the stadium.
As a soccer-specific stadium, Lockhart was the home field of both the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League as well as the Miami Fusion of Major League Soccer. D.C. United's 1998 victory over Vasco da Gama to capture the Copa Interamericana was also held here.
