  • GNOME Office - Includes AbiWord, Gnumeric and Gnome-DB data access components, AbiWord and Gnumeric are highly rated software. external link
  • OpenOffice.org - The parent project. Open Office contains a foundation of code from StarOffice. The code is donated on continually by Sun Microsystems as it develops it. Volunteers elaborate on the code to produce the various Open Office versions, including the base suite. external link

  • Applixware - Some versions are freeware some are commercial. Is built with a powerful macro/programming language. Exists in Linux, Free BSD, Sun Sparc Solaris, and IBM AIX as well as Windows versions. external link
  • Axene - An office suite for Unix, Linux, SunOS, Solaris Sparc, FreeBSD & NetBSD. Fancy Website, but seems to have halted development in 1999. external link
  • DeskMaster - An Office Suite for AS400 with no spreadsheet but a bunch of other office tools including mail and word processing. external link
  • Evermore Integrated Office - An intriguing new Chinese integrated office suite. Available for Red Hat Linux 8.0 KDE desktop environment or above. external link
  • Framework - Historical but also still supported for Windows by the present developer. Works with Novell Netware, OS/2, Apple Macintosh Power PC using Insignia Soft Windows, NeXTSTEP using Insignia Soft Windows, a number of Unix DOS emulators, Novell DOS 7, and earlier DOS versions dating back to DOS 3.0. external link
  • SoftMaker Office 2004 - German company with a strong word processor and spreadsheet. external link
  • StarOffice - A powerful mature suite from which Sun donates code to the OpenOffice.org project. Available for Linux and Sun Solaris. external link

  • Ability Office - is only in Alpha testing. external link
  • Andrew - An office suite for Linux and UNIX, developed by Carnegie Mellon University and named after Andrew Carnegie. Works with AIX 3.2, SunOS 4.1.3 & Solaris 2.4, Ultrix 4.3, HPUX 9.0, Linux (Red Hat Linux & Slackware). external link
  • GNOME Office - Includes Abiword, Gnumeric and Gnome-DB data access components, Abiword and Gnumeric are highly rated software. external link
  • KOffice - KOffice is a free, integrated office suite for KDE, the K Desktop Environment. external link
  • Siag Office - A suite with a sense of humor. The word processor is called Pathetic Writer. external link

  • 602Office - A Czech and Slovak commercial version of OpenOffice.org. Contains the 602SQL database program. external link

  • FlySuite - A low priced office suite that installs locally and is also available anywhere if users have a subscription. Java-based. flysuite.com
  • gOffice - An impressive start to the Web 2.0 office suite concept. The spreadsheet, which imports Excel files, and the word processor which can accept pastes from MS Word are ready. The presentation module is being worked on but the desktop publishing module does work. goffice.com
  • Microsoft Office Live - officelive.microsoft.com
  • SimDesk - A suite of online MS Office compatible software available with a subscription to SimDesk Services which cost from $3.50 – $20 a month. With a subscription, you are allowed to install the application anywhere. www.simdesk.com
  • Thinkfree Office Online Beta - Very interesting well developed new idea. Java-based. online.thinkfree.com
  • Zoho Office Suite Free online office suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, and collaboration groupware. Zoho home

Historical


  • ClarisWorks - Famous early Mac Office suite. It has morphed and branched into AppleWorks and GoBeProductive. When the original developers split up, ClarisWorks continued as AppleWorks after being bought by Apple, and GoBeProductive was redeveloped from the ground up using ideas from the original. external link
  • Framework - historical but also still supported for Windows by the present developer -Selection & Functions Inc.
  • Lotus Jazz - Mac sister product to Lotus Symphony below.
  • Lotus Symphony - Following the popularity of office suites made by competitors, the makers of the wildly popular Lotus 123, tried their hand at a suite for Windows.
  • Xoom Office - historical but still available on eBay and elsewhere. Produced by the makers of WordStar. external link
