This is a list of notable people who have undergone an amputation.

Jerry White, cofounder and executive director of the Landmine Survivors Network.

James Doohan (deceased), lost a part of right middle finger, lost following landing at Juno Beach on D-Day.
Darryl Hannah, missing a part of left index finger.
Al Lewis a.k.a. "Grandpa Munster" (deceased), lost lower right leg and all toes on left foot due to complications of angioplasty surgery.
Harold Russell (deceased), lost both hands in a dynamite accident during parachute training.
Lee Van Cleef (deceased), was missing the last joint of his middle finger. You can clearly see this during tha last gunfight of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Simona Atzori, Congenital double arm amputee.
Doctor Atl (deceased), lost a leg due to disease.

Cotton Hill, a character in the animated series King of the Hill. A fictional World War II hero who had his shins "blowed off by a Japanman's machine gun" in combat. His feet were later reattached to his knees.
Edward Elric, a character in the anime Fullmetal Alchemist. Lost his right arm and left leg in a Transmutation ritual. He later acquired advanced prosthetics called Automail.
Head Detective, Damon Wayans on the TV show In Living Color portrays a police detective who, due to a horrific accident, is merely a head attached to a pair of feet and tiny hands.

Ivy Gunter, lost her right leg above the knee due to bone cancer located in the knee.
Jennifer Krum, lost her left hand and forearm in a traffic accident.
Heather Mills McCartney, wife of Paul McCartney, lost her right leg below the knee in a traffic accident.

Rick Allen, drummer for Def Leppard, lost his left arm in car crash, but continued drumming with his right arm.
Martin Deschamps, Canadian rock singer, born with left arm and right leg missing, as well as congenital deformities of the other limbs.
Jerry Garcia (deceased), member of The Grateful Dead, missing half of his right middle finger due to an accident when he was four years old.
Cole Porter, had his left leg amputated in his later years.
Theresa Sareo, hit by a drunk driver.
Paul Wittgenstein, brother of philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, lost his right arm in World War I but continued his career as a clasical pianist.

Lucien Bouchard, former Leader of the Opposition in Canada and former Premier of Quebec, lost a leg to necrotizing fasciitis in 1994.
Max Cleland, American Senator, lost an arm and both legs when he served in the Vietnam War.
Wade Hampton III, lost his right leg.
Daniel Inouye, United States Senator, lost an arm during World War II. Recipient of the Medal of Honor.
Bob Kerrey, former U.S. Senator and Governor of Nebraska, lost right lower leg to a Russian-built grenade in Vietnam as a Navy SEAL officer. Awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazilian president, finger amputee.
Helmut Zilk, former mayor of Vienna, hand amputee after opening letter bomb.
Marmaduke Hussey, former chairman of the BBC. Lost leg during World War II.

Daniel Sickles, lost his right leg, at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Horatio Nelson, British admiral during the Napoleonic Wars, lost right arm in battle.
Douglas Bader, WW2 British fighter pilot, lost legs in training flight. Prisoner of war in Germany after being shot down in dogfight.
Donald K. "Deke" Slayton, WW2 bomber and Air Force test pilot, lost left ring finger in a childhood accident. Later became part of the Mercury Seven astronaut group and flew on Apollo-Soyuz in 1975.
Joseph Trumpeldor, Russian soldier and Zionist pioneer in Palestine. Lost his left arm in battle during the Russo-Japanese War.

Shea Cowart, lost her legs below the knee due to meningococcal sepsis.
Hugh Daily, one-armed major league baseball pitcher.
Dave Dravecky, former Major League pitcher with San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres, cancerous tumor in left arm cut short his career; two years after retiring, the arm had to be amputated.

Alex Zanardi, ex-Formula One driver and Champ Car champion, lost both of his legs at the knees due to an accident during a race in 2001.
