Lewes Football Club are an English football team, currently playing in the Conference South. Nicknamed The Rooks, the team has seen a number of promotions in recent years.
Lewes Football Club was formed following a meeting at The Royal Oak pub in 1885. Green shirts were worn for the first eight years of competition, designed to reflect the scenery of the surrounding South Downs. Red and black became the colours of choice in 1893 and have remained so to the present day. The club have always played their home matches at the Dripping Pan. The ground itself is known to have been used for football matches prior to the foundation of the team, and has been used by the people of Lewes as a centre for recreation as far back as records exist.
Lewes FC have reached the 1st round proper of the FA Cup only once in their entire history. Lewes FC played Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in which Lewes FC lost 2-0.
