Les Miles (born November 10, 1953) is the current head coach of the LSU football team. Prior to holding that position, he was head coach at Oklahoma State. He was formerly an assistant at Oklahoma State University as well as with the University of Michigan, the University of Colorado and the Dallas Cowboys.
Miles became head coach at Oklahoma State University in 2001. In his second year as head coach, he was named the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year by the Associated Press in 2002 after leading the Cowboys to their first bowl appearance since 1997. Miles also led Oklahoma State University to bowl games after the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
After the 2004 season, Miles became the head coach at LSU. He replaced Nick Saban, who had just taken the head coach position with the NFL's Miami Dolphins. In his first season, Miles continued the success Saban brought to the team. The team won the 2005 SEC Western Division title with a 10-1 record, and earned a spot in the SEC Championship Game. LSU lost the championship game to the University of Georgia, but rebounded to win the 2005 Peach Bowl against the University of Miami. LSU finished Miles' first season with an 11-2 record, a number-five ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll, and a number-six ranking in the AP Poll. It was also LSU's third 10-win season in five years.
He is a native of Elyria, Ohio, and played football for the Elyria High School Pioneers. He earned an Economics degree from the University of Michigan, where he played on the offensive line. He has a career record of 31-23 in 5 seasons as a head coach at Oklahoma State and LSU.
