The post of Leader of Government Business in the Cayman Islands is the equivalent to Chief Minister or Premier in most British colonies. It is the highest political level that can be attained within the colonial system. The holder of that position is regarded as the head of government.
For a number of years that title had no official recognition, but the British government formalised it in July 2003, along with that of Leader of the Opposition.
